“Go there for a meal but it's no place to stay.”
The hostess who handled our check‑in was genuinely gracious and kind, a pleasant young lady who made us feel welcomed. The chef also stepped out to confirm that our dinner met his standards, and both of them went above and beyond. Unfortunately, the facilities were far from ideal: there was no WiFi, the bathroom measured only 4 × 6 ft including the shower, and some rooms lacked a TV—so double‑check that before booking. I chose this place mainly because of its history as an old prison, yet no photos or written details about that were provided, which I found disappointing. After dinner I wanted to explore the rest of the building; the staircase wasn’t blocked off, so I went upstairs. I found a beautiful meeting‑type room and discovered additional guest rooms that, by the smell, were uninhabitable. The plumbing and bathrooms were in terrible disrepair, and I wondered what I might have been breathing. I left immediately and went back downstairs. It’s a shame that the owners have allowed such a historically significant property to deteriorate; they should block off the stairway to protect guests from the gross condition. Breakfast wasn’t available until 11:00 am, so we left as soon as we could.
