A quiet little room with all the essentials—heater, fridge, stove—and a surprisingly spacious interior that feels cozy. The host keeps five llamas, and we even got to feed them snacks; they were enthusiastic and adorable.

“Very disappointing and disrupted our holiday.”

The place offered plenty of space, but we counted 27 issues ranging from unclean floors, toilets, and cookware to a shower that didn’t drain and leaked onto the floor. The outdoor canvas chairs, a hole in the sheet, a dirty tea towel, an oven mitt, a non‑working fan heater in the bathroom during winter, a sticking door, a loud clattering heat‑pump, and another heater the owner claimed was out of order but we managed to turn on and off it, keeping it hot all day. Some problems were fixed at first, but new ones kept popping up, so we were offered a full refund, which we accepted and found another place. We’d have rated it lower, but the refund nudged the score up a bit.

The location is very central, not far from Christchurch or the sky fields, which was perfect for our small family. The place felt warm and cozy, though the entire floor needed a bit of cleaning; we handled that with a vacuum and a robovac.

The stay was private, spacious, and had good Wi‑Fi, with a nice, friendly hostess. However, the cleaning was inadequate: crumbs and dead insects everywhere, the fridge needed cleaning, there were no teaspoons (just many chopsticks), access required a long gravel road, there were no views, mattresses lay on the floor instead of proper beds, and everything felt sticky.
