The view over the city was stunning and the pool added a nice touch, but the room lacked air conditioning or a fan and got unbearably hot; I also spotted small cockroaches in the bathroom. Breakfast options were very limited and the restaurant prices were above average. Most troubling was a male night‑shift staff member’s inappropriate and unwanted behavior, which made me feel extremely uncomfortable and unsafe as a solo female traveler, and that was by far the biggest issue of my stay.

The view of the city from Funchal was great, yet the hotel felt unchanged since its construction, probably over 50/60 years old. It was hard to find the rooms we were booked in, which were very old with walls painted with red spots (dead bees). We had to hand back the key every time we left the hotel, a detail that should have been mentioned at booking. Breakfast was low quality—scrambled eggs, stale bread, and a few pieces of fruit—and I wouldn’t recommend it, let alone pay for it.

“Not great”

The location was great and the pool was a nice bonus, but breakfast was poor quality. The rooms were falling apart, and the bed even collapsed one night. There were only small fans and no air conditioning, and asking the staff for anything felt like too much trouble.

“Altes und runtergekommenes Hotel.”

The building itself looked beautiful from the outside, a historic 1910 structure with a clean, well‑maintained façade, but that was all there was. The room was shabby with antique, broken furniture; blackout curtains were just tattered pieces, and pulling them sometimes tore a strip because the fabric was so thin. The bathroom smelled bad, towels were stained and yellow, and a disgusting odor came from them after drying off. Dust and grime covered corners and furniture everywhere. Breakfast was a mushy cheese, and the coffee was terrible. On the second day we had to find a different breakfast spot because we couldn’t eat there again. Public areas, like the glass doors, hadn’t been cleaned in ages; everything looked dirty and worn. I would never book this hotel again. It’s a shame because the building is beautiful and could be great if properly renovated—at least a thorough clean would do a lot.

“Schönes Gebäude aber leider alles sehr in die Jahre gekommen”

Die Lage und das Alte Gebäude. Das Personal ist wirklich sehr nett. Vieles ist schon alt und kommt an das Ende seiner Lebensdauer. Damit sind insbesondere die Möbel, Bad, Fenster und Türen gemeint. Das Frühstück war sehr einfach
