“Wunderschöne Anlage mit tollen Zimmern und traumhafter Lage, der es leider an Atmosphäre und echter Gastfreundschaft feh”
The Quinta da Magnolia has its bright spots: the location is excellent, the whole property is really beautiful, and our room was spacious, modern, very clean, and obviously new or well maintained. The staff were generally friendly. Yet overall our stay was disappointing. I’m not sure if it was because the “winter season” had already started in late September, but the hotel felt unwelcoming. We arrived on a gorgeous, sunny afternoon with perfect pool weather, yet all the sunshades and loungers had already been removed, apparently because a storm was forecast for the next day. After we said we still wanted to use the pool, nobody offered us a chair or shade; we had to find everything ourselves. The poolside toilets were already closed. We also didn’t know that apart from breakfast there was no way to get a drink or snack during the day. That should have been clear before booking; if we’d known, we might have chosen another hotel. Breakfast also didn’t meet our expectations for a four‑star hotel. The room and buffet felt more like a cafeteria. Coffee came from a machine that tasted more like instant coffee, or as filtered coffee; no freshly brewed coffee was available. The selection was very limited, with only one type of fresh fruit, for example. During our stay we were often the only guests or just a few couples, so many services were probably already scaled back, which felt true. The final confirmation of this impression was that at check‑out we weren’t even asked how our stay had been; the card was taken and that was it.
