The view from the rooms, restaurant, and hot spring was great, and the wide open-air hot spring felt refreshing. The courtyard’s layout was also nice, and overall the building’s arrangement seemed thoughtfully designed. I noticed the courtyard was almost empty during my walk, which felt wasteful. The terrace bath in the guest room seemed unnecessary. The library’s selection could use more variety—books on Nankai’s history, culture, nature, and local folklore would be welcome. It might help promote the area as a base for tours. The shop could explain local products’ features and bargains a bit more.

The lobby and lounge were gorgeous, as were the pool and hot spring baths. My room was incredibly comfortable, and I loved the ocean‑view balcony with a private bath. The included meals were fantastic, with meticulous presentation and preparation. Most importantly, the staff were outstanding: they kept a calm, cozy vibe, remembered me by name, anticipated my needs, and were very accommodating. I would have liked more gym equipment—a small weights rack and a single bench would make a big difference. A minor annoyance was that the top of the tea and coffee nook was at head height, so I bumped my head a few times trying to reach the back. A smart TV would have been nice, and the pillows were flat and uncomfortable.

The smoking suite was unbelievably luxurious, which really surprised me, though I wish there had been some night‑time arcade or games to make evenings more entertaining.

“Prachtig maar heel wat verbeter punten qua comfort”

The rooms were gorgeous and the spa and pool area were fantastic, but the location was misleading – the listing said the beach was 800 m away, yet we ended up walking over 3.5 km up a steep hill; there were no Ubers or taxis, dinner had to be booked three days in advance or you couldn’t get a table, and there was no room service or laundry service, which felt disappointing given the price; the pool only had six lounge chairs and no beds.
