This place is special, with a wonderful host, Dickson Magomba, who attends to every need from arrival to departure, offers sightseeing tips, and joins you when needed. If you want a genuine African experience away from crowded tourist spots, this is the spot—its setting, location, and Dickson will stay with you. There was nothing else; it was real Africa.

The experience was authentically African! Arriving felt like stepping into a green, peaceful island with a forest, a white beach, and a small fishing village that lives simply yet communally—what makes you feel human. The house consists of a few straw huts, a net for insects, an outside African‑style toilet with a manual flush, and a shower that uses a water basin; it’s less comfortable than ours but it gives a sense of freedom and nature. They can provide warm water too. Inside, a young guide organized a day trip for a reasonable price; he loves the island, so listening to his stories and visiting his favorite spots was wonderful—thanks, Pascal! The only issues were that the place is far from town, so you’ll need a taxi and the owner’s guide, and the food, while genuine and tasty, had limited options. Also, swimming in the lake isn’t possible due to a parasite, which was disappointing.

Dickson is an exceptional host and our stay at his place (icluding delicious meals) was wonderful! We spent two days cycling around the island in his company and were enchanted by everything we saw — it's such an authentic, turistically unspoilt area. We would highly recommend Dickson's homestay for anyone wanting to experience the authentic life of Ukerewe

The natural surroundings with locals, farmland, and wildlife were a real treat, and the breakfasts were lovely while the dinners were gorgeous, with plenty of food and fruit. Dickson was a wonderful host who helped with everything I needed. The only downside was that I arrived off‑season, so there were no other tourists around, but that didn’t ruin the experience.
