“ontspannend en interessant”

The building and the garden with the big tree were great, and the breakfast was delicious, with coffee and tea available all day (if you stayed in the garden reading instead of exploring the beautiful surroundings!). However, our sleeping area (the old Bedstee) was quite tricky for older people (70+) to get in and out of; you can block traffic on that side with the shutters—don’t forget, some farm traffic or trucks will pass. My husband didn’t sleep well: I found it adventurous and the mattress is excellent there.

The breakfast was delightful, with daily variety. The room was spacious and quiet. The toilet and shower were on the hallway.

Unfortunately, the room was behind the bar and quite noisy. The shared bathroom was untidy. Rebooking was impossible, and even though we didn’t stay, we still had to pay everything.

What a beautiful farm! The décor is tasteful and full of love for detail, the breakfast was delicious, and we were pampered; highly recommended!

The Spijkerhuys truly sits in a prime spot, and the 1741 farmhouse has been beautifully restored, with each of the five rooms boasting its own character. We stayed on the first floor in the Nachtzwaluw, a spacious suite with two dormer windows, a private bathroom and air‑conditioning, plus a dining table and two convenient chairs. The bed was large and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the breakfast prepared by the host Joyce – absolutely delicious, generous and highly recommended. The only drawback was the road in front of the farm; you’re always on the side of it and you can hear traffic now and then.
