The onsen ryokan had a high standard, with a private en‑suite onsen overlooking Lake Biwa and a halal menu for Muslim travelers, plus shuttle service to and from the train station. There was nothing to criticize.

The room with a bath was excellent. We had a Japanese‑style room and slept well on futons. The most memorable part was the dinner, which was very high level. They also let us leave our suitcases at the hotel on the day of check‑out so we could walk to the lake.

The staff were very friendly, the room was huge and comfy, and both the dinner and breakfast were tasty. It does feel a little old and could use a makeover.

I loved the open‑air bath that let me soak at my own pace, and the large communal bath had a calm vibe with great water quality. The fish dishes, however, fell short; coming from the Hokuriku region, I found the sea‑food here less tasty than what I’m used to in the Japan Sea. Sorry.
