I liked the reception team—all respectful—and the room was clean, spacious, and they responded warmly to our requests. Thanks to the Australian hotel for the good service and hospitality. Everything was excellent; I just wish they installed a door on the elevator for safety.

The Australian Hostel in Cairo works well for downtown stays when you need solid accommodation at a fair price. Over nearly three weeks I stayed three times in two different rooms, both roomy and reasonably clean. Each room had AC and a fridge, and none faced the street, which I liked given Cairo’s noise. The 24‑hour front desk makes late check‑ins and early departures easy, and the staff are friendly and super helpful. One room’s appliances were a bit noisy, so earplugs might help if you’re sensitive.

I found the price‑to‑quality ratio great if all you want is a cheap place to sleep. The private room was spacious and came with breakfast, though we never tried it because we were out early every day. The building feels very old and the elevator is scary, but once inside the hostel the facilities are fairly decent. Remember that the location is in the center and very noisy.

It sits in classic downtown Cairo, which feels like a cultural shock for a Canadian. The room was clean, but the building itself was quite dirty. I actually liked the Australian Hostel, but it isn’t for everyone. If you’re a single woman you need a sense of adventure; it felt like I was living among the local Egyptian crowd. The staff were helpful with taxis and guides that respected my wishes. The AC was very cold and the pillows were uncomfortable.
