The night was very cold and I couldn’t locate the heating or thermostat. The blinds were broken, and the other room had no blinds, making the rooms quite bright early in the morning. The coffee cup lids were too big to fit.

Parking was available outside, and the spot was close to the tower and Coral Island. The room was the size of a two‑bed apartment, with a spacious bathroom that had both a shower and a bathtub. Inside the bedroom, a fridge, kettle, and hair dryer were provided, and the beds were comfortable. There were plenty of towels and toiletries in the room, and tea, coffee, and sugar were stocked. Downstairs, there was a cereal, tea, coffee, sugar, and milk station. The only slight gripe was a faint musty smell in the foyer, but that could be fixed with an air freshener.

We appreciated that our room was a double and a single joined together to make a family room, giving us two bathrooms, but the single bed was useless since we were traveling with a four‑month‑old, so we had to include her in the booking. We had a pram and were assigned a top‑floor room, which required climbing more than three flights of steep steps, as the building is an old house turned into a self‑running hotel. The bathroom plumbing smelled bad, the windowsills were thick with dust and dead insects, and the lobby board was full of house rules. Breakfast or any meals were not offered, and we weren’t allowed to bring food in either. A communal cereal dispenser held stale cornflakes and Coco Pops but no milk. No staff were seen during our stay, though the manager Sam tried to contact me a few times; when I tried to reply, I heard nothing. We were glad it was only one night and will avoid it in the future. The cost was £70+ for one night, and when the kettle had mold floating on top of the water, I couldn’t stay quiet. If other hotels weren’t fully booked or if we had driven, we probably wouldn’t have stayed the night, and we left early in the morning well before check‑in.

The host was incredibly helpful and nothing seemed too much for him.

The location was good. However, there was no remote, no hot water, and the place looked a little run down.
