“An unexpected adventure”
The host and her team showed what true hospitality looks like—professional, caring, efficient, and fully service‑oriented. During our last stay on the way to Pretoria after a solid 6000‑km road trip through the Garden Route, Wine Route, West Coast and the Swartland, we discovered a hidden gem that turned us into raving fans. The grounds, rooms, dining room, and gift shop were tastefully and lovingly decorated and equipped with everything we could wish for: firm, medium, and soft pillows; mosquito nets; candles and fragrant diffusers; bath and shower options; a fully stocked tea and coffee selection; and complimentary sherry. The scented walk to the dining room, with its practical and artistic touches, set the scene for an intimate dining experience with soft lighting and hearty, tasty, farm‑to‑table fresh food that outshone any rivals on our trip. The only thing better than the food was the pleasant, friendly, and highly efficient service from our waitress, whose accompanying playlist was simply superb. The town itself and what’s available within 20 to 100 metres exceeded our expectations. Ian’s gift, antiquity, and bookshop was filled with South African treasures, old and new, and even if we had stayed a few more days we still wouldn’t have seen everything. The museum and theatre are cared for by master curator Joha Tolken, who selflessly shared many interesting facts, memorable stories, and local folklore. Klaradyn and team Richmond, THANK YOU for a most memorable experience that will stay in our treasure trove. Remain Blessed always. Brian & Ruth Johnson
