Ker Anahid - L'Atelier

The location is fantastic for visiting the northwest Breton coast, run by Anne, a single woman who is very active and pampered her guests. Every morning she prepares a different breakfast with care. The accommodation is decidedly rustic and quiet, with cats, a fruit tree and chickens—exactly what we needed to recharge. The surroundings are also wonderful. The mattress was too soft and caused me morning back pain.

The setting is charming, the room is gorgeous—a tiny Breton cottage with four beds, two of which are loft beds. If you’re traveling with family, note that the loft ladder isn’t removable, so little ones might treat it as a toy; ours nearly went crazy climbing up and down, making us chase them around. Breakfast is excellent, fresh daily ingredients always ready in the adjacent room. The environment is quiet and understated, and the room’s cleanliness is superb. The only nitpick is that the breakfast “room” could feel warmer; you have to walk past the chickens pecking around to reach the sleeping area.

The owner is friendly and quick to give directions, the place is calm and quiet, and the room is clean. The room sits on the second floor and the stairs are a bit awkward for luggage; to get to the room you had to pass through the family’s kitchen. The bathroom is noisy—turning on the tap at night wakes everyone in the room. There’s a microwave and kettle in the bathroom, and the third bed is tucked into a cramped, poorly ventilated spot.

The room was clean, but the two beds for my daughters were just mattresses on the floor. Overall, the property would benefit from more order and tidiness.
