My girlfriend and I dropped in for a single night to unwind in the Japanese countryside, and we really liked the stay. The house is very pretty. Unfortunately, the rain kept us from joining the owner for the nightly fireplace he sometimes sets up, but he was still very kind and helpful. He even escorted us to the train station with his well‑behaved dog Daiso.

I savored the tasty meals, chatted with the owner, and mingled with other guests – it was a blast. The billionaire who came for the first time in decades was surprisingly entertaining. Since it was a walk and train trip, having someone escort me to the nearest station was a huge help. The dogs, rabbits, and other animals were all friendly and adorable.

The spot is amazing – just behind the house you hit fields and a bamboo forest, a hill with hiking trails, and a sunset view. The owner runs the place with passion, doing a lot himself: he's a carpenter, tends the garden, turns the harvest into products for the meals, and offers tasty breakfast on request. The only tiny issue: the hinge on the toilet door could use a bit of oil.
