“Wonderful, welcoming stay with great trail access and delicious breakfast”
Rancho Santa Cruz sits on the Anza Trail and feels like a secluded escape that still feels welcoming. The hosts do a great job of blending privacy with community vibes, and the breakfast that comes with the stay is tasty and served in good company. If you’re traveling with a group, there’s plenty of indoor and outdoor space to gather. Birdwatchers and walkers will appreciate the direct access to the Anza Trail right behind the property, and the bench outside your room—under the portal—lets you watch hummingbirds and vermilion flycatchers without leaving the comfort of your room. Tubac is a short hop for lunch, shopping, or a visit to the Presidio historic site, museum, or Tucamacori Mission, and in spring the nearby Hawk Watch International site is a bonus for birders. The only drawback is the highway noise; the ranch sits in a valley where traffic from the major produce corridor between Mexico and the U.S. echoes off the surrounding mountains. Inside the rooms, however, the insulation keeps the noise to a minimum, and after a while it fades into the background, leaving the hosts’ hospitality and the overall setting to shine.
