The lack of a quiet bar that stays open late was disappointing.

It’s situated in a relatively quiet part of Shanghai, the rates are competitive, and there’s a lot of value and comfort at Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao. The only downside was that the transport cart was placed in the executive suites rather than at the main reception.

I only liked the facilities and the electronic check‑in. I’d advise paying online and not renting on the spot; honestly, they demanded a 900 SAR deposit plus extra fees and taxes that were hidden on the booking site, and in the end they refunded me, but you have to calculate that the total comes to 1628 Yen, which is pricey and not worth it. The view they brag about as “river” is nothing special and doesn’t even look like a river, and it’s far from the city center and tourist spots. I arrived at 1 a.m. and the reception was disappointing; no one handled our bags, even though it’s a five‑star property, unlike other five‑star hotels. The buffet was dirty – the table wasn’t cleaned after the previous guests, the linen wasn’t changed, and I had to ask them to replace it. There were food crumbs left from earlier diners, and the shower water was so hot it took forever to cool down, leaving the bathroom steaming.

The hotel was lovely, with stunning rooms and comfortable beds, plus a great gym and pool. The toilet in the shared room was a problem: the sliding glass doors gave no privacy, a gap let you see into the living room, and sound leaked. I tried the ladies’ toilets on the main building; one was locked and the other had no light or switch. Why were the toilets unavailable? We were in the executive building, about a five‑minute walk from the main building, and the lobby toilets were locked the entire four days we stayed. After checkout we had to wait in the lobby with our luggage and then walk back to the main building to use a toilet – absolute madness for a Hilton that claims it has no toilet in that building.
