Gina and Ricardo were excellent hosts, handling everything with ease and offering mint tea and cappuccinos. The Great Gatsby property itself is outstanding, and my room offered the most amazing view of Johannesburg anyone could desire—truly luxurious and fun. I just wish I had booked for a longer stay.

The place used to be a mansion district, featuring many stone‑castle‑style houses built on a small hill with good views and convenient transport; it’s close to Constitution Hill to the south and the new business district to the north. Even though it’s near a local black residential area, I didn’t notice any safety concerns. The interior décor preserves the aesthetic of a 20th‑century wealthy homeowner, making it feel like a visit to an old antique, yet all the basic modern amenities are present. Breakfast offers several menu options that taste good, and the atmosphere during breakfast is even better. I felt the host was anxious, speaking quickly and always busy, as if the business isn’t doing well; I hope his future ventures prosper.

The location is great, and both the host and staff were extremely accommodating. We received an upgrade to a better room at no extra cost, and I’ll definitely return when I’m in the area again. Everything was beautifully done, and I’m very happy!

I really appreciated the owner’s honesty, the cleanliness, the friendly treatment, and the furniture and accessories that have been kept for 100 years. Nothing was lacking; everything was fantastic.
