Ruma’s service, the safari to learn about local flora and fauna, and the design of the facilities were all impressive. During the safari, Ruma respected the wildlife and we saw elephants, which was much appreciated. He’s a consistent guide who stays true to nature, very honest, and introduced us to his culture; we even stopped along the route to try a local delicacy I’ll definitely revisit. Thanks for everything. No negative comments; I felt very comfortable.

The room was basic but had AC and a fan. The tour they arranged was exploitative of Sri Lanka’s national parks; they provoked elephants and put us in dangerous situations. An elephant charged us after the driver had provoked two female elephants with a calf. The guide bragged that a tourist had cried a week earlier after an elephant had hit their vehicle. After that, they expected us to tip. By staying here you’re supporting that business, which also runs the cottages. I recorded videos of the elephants being incited and taunted. I’m extremely disappointed to have spent money on such an awful, exploitative operation. I wish we’d known this was to be expected and had avoided the wildlife safari.

I was welcomed by a cozy, safari‑camp vibe, and the owner was super friendly. The rice and curry was delicious, and the breakfast was tasty. When I arrived they organized a sunset fishing trip, which was really fun. The bathroom and fridge could have been cleaner, though.

We had a fantastic stay at Thanamal‑Villa; the owners and staff were so nice, and the meal cooked over coals was amazing and relaxing. Nothing to complain about.

The safari tent had a large private terrace with seating and a hammock, and the owner was very friendly and spoke good English. A big fridge outside lets you keep drinks cold. The tent could be cleaned better; there were some spider webs hanging from the ceiling. The bathroom is shared with a few frogs— they’re harmless, but you have to be okay with that. The furniture on the terrace needs replacing, which is already on the plan. The food is pricey. There isn’t much to do in the village itself.
