“Unresponsive host makes the entire guesthouse a poor option- look elsewhere”
The good points of this guesthouse are undermined by a terrible host; the location is excellent, and the rooms and kitchen look newly renovated (though the kitchen lacks basic tools, the private bathroom has a mildew smell, and the host refuses to give access to heating/AC controls). I had read earlier complaints about this host and experienced them too. Having worked in travel tech for years, this is the worst host I've encountered since a Guatemalan hostel owner locked me in the lobby until I paid more money. After booking, I received an automated message outlining many check‑in rules; one rule required me to pay the tourist tax via a link the host would send the day before check‑in, but it was never sent. I messaged, WhatsApped, and emailed asking for it, with no response. The next morning I still received no check‑in details (including the address) or the tax link, so I tried again—no reply. My flight left at 8 am, and I tried once more—still no response. At 11 am, while in flight, I finally got a WhatsApp telling me how to check in and to "leave the tourist tax in cash," clearly forgetting my arrival. When we got to the ensuite double room, it was very cold (early March, rainstorm) and the bathroom smelled of mildew/wet dog. There is heating, but no remote to turn it on. I WhatsApped the owner again, telling him it was very cold and needed the remote—no reply. The shared kitchen lacks a kettle, teapot, or anything to boil water (there is a Nescafé machine but no pods); I also WhatsApped asking if anything could be used—no response. The next day, upon checking out, I tested a trick: I said I didn’t know how to pay the tourist tax and we were leaving. He responded within minutes (see screenshot). I cannot recommend this place, which is a shame because the location is great and the facilities are pretty good. Also, for entertainment, read the host’s response to my review. Did AI write this? Is this person unable to read? We may never know. His reading comprehension is as good as his hosting skills.
