“Dit is echt GEEN NORMAAL HOTEL.”
I was looking for a place to stay, not a sex hotel. These hourly‑rental spots attract a different crowd than typical vacationers, and it felt uncomfortable to be caught in between. Because of a busy festival weekend and the scarcity of hotels in Niigata, we ended up here at a ridiculously high room price. Before arrival, you’re bombarded with emails about rules, check‑in procedures, and usage requirements. Unlike a regular hotel, you can’t check in until late afternoon. Your car parks in a carport in front of the room, and you enter the room through a small patio that unfortunately has no chairs. If you leave in the middle of the night, the room door can’t be locked, so you have to take all your belongings with you. The room and bathroom are clearly set up for other purposes than a normal overnight stay. There are vending machines selling drinks and sex toys. All interaction with staff is done in a way that avoids eye contact, but they still keep an eye on you. If hotels on booking sites want to tap into the regular hotel market, they must serve those guests appropriately, which isn’t happening here.
