“Lovely people, historic building, excellent breakfast & nice restaurant but hotel area lets it down.”
Breakfast was very good. Just cooked brekkie & sourdough toast but quality ingredients & very well cooked. Vegetarian catered for very well. Had evening meal here. Ranged from OK to excellent, depending on the tapa. It’s a nice place to eat overall, with pleasant, quaint atmosphere & friendly, helpful staff. The staff are the best bit about this place, followed by the character of it & also a good location, near the canal & country walks. Convenient for the station but not too close as Littleborough centre isn’t the best-sorry…. I hate to say anything negative as the owners & staff clearly care but I don’t think I’d come back to stay for the following reasons. (I would eat here again though). Room 4 was exceptionally noisy (more in a separate review by my friend). Not on to put people in a room that noisy for £140. Loud Spanish music 4-10.30pm & very intrusive noise of customers downstairs until 10pm-ish. Plus only hand held shower over bath. Room 2 much less noisy but very soft bed & huge, hard pillows. I slept terribly the first night until I swapped a pillow with my friend. For £140, I’d expect 2 types of pillows & a better bed. No bedside table, not enough space to put/hang things in the bathroom. It felt a bit lacking & not a romantic getaway place. I had missed that breakfast wasn’t included, which was a shock at £140 per room. (Although breakfast wasn’t expensive & was good value-if the rooms had been £100). It all felt a bit steep for what wasn’t a very comfortable or relaxing place to stay. *Be aware that access to the rooms is not for people who are at all unsteady on their feet: lots of steps, dark & slippery. Need light on phone or torch at night!*
