The pub was cozy and the staff friendly, yet the breakfast was pre‑made every day for the next day, so the croissants were just pre‑packed.

The location made it easy to get in and out of the city, but you have to use the car park because there is no on‑road parking anywhere.

The accommodation was comfortable and attractive with good tea and coffee facilities in the room, plenty of on‑site parking, and it was close enough to the city to walk in; the pub downstairs made some noise, but it wasn’t intrusive on Monday and Tuesday nights when we were there. The breakfast was too basic, especially since the croissant was frankly awful; otherwise it was just cornflakes or Alpen plus a yogurt for sustenance. The pub food is good, but it wasn’t available on Monday night and was limited on Tuesday because it was quiz night.

The ambience of this place is fantastic; it sits in the middle of a tight-knit community yet somehow opens its arms to everyone, just like any truly great inn should, making it a wonderful place.
