The property was clean, breakfast was good (usually banana/pineapple pancakes or omelette) and the staff were really friendly and helpful sorting out guides for various places I wanted to visit, as well as onward travel without being at all pushy - just helpful. It’s a good and bad, the property is up a hill approached by 2 roads, one is unpaved and often grab drivers would insist on taking this before they realised it was in fact very difficult. The other is fine though, but you do need to convince the drivers. Because of its offset position it is best to get motorbike taxis which means you can’t really just walk quickly to a cafe or shop, however on the other hand Rantepao is really busy and full of traffic noise so it’s nice to be tucked away. in a more scenic part

“Amazing Place to Stay?”

Super clean and comfortable and had great hot water. The bar had ice cold beer and good food. But most importantly was the service. Hendrik picked me up at the bus station and helped me get to a fantastic Toraja funeral ceremony. Oh, and if you're lucky maybe he will BBQ pork for dinner!

“Avoid if possible 😭”

The room was clean and comfortable (however it was not the room we booked). Unfortunately had a very bad experience with staff/owner. We enquired about a tour, he quoted an outrageously high price for 4 days. We requested to only attend a funeral rather than doing any of the activities as they were so costly. We agreed on a price of €120 to attend a funeral on Sat & Sun. We attended the first days event (2hours) with a guide who had minimal English. On returning, the owner demanded €150 for that day?!! We reminded him of the agreed price of €120 for 2 days so told him we were only happy to pay €60 (even though funerals are free to attend and no gifts were given) The owner got very dramatic, sighing and arguing and began to make up all sorts of random costs that had to be met. In the end we stayed only one night (out of 4) and checked out first thing the next morning. On giving him the €60 he didn’t even make eye contact and just dismissed us. We also met one other guest who mentioned they were also cutting their stay short at that guesthouse. Otherwise, the room we were given had zero privacy with the window opening out onto the stairway where other guests walk. My partner left his jacket in the owners car and when we asked if we could get it the owner reported his car was being cleaned but no jacket was inside. He then said he had seen my partner wearing it but then changed his story and said he must had left it on the bus. All very sketchy and honestly we felt like we were completely ripped off. It sadly ruined our trip to Toraja
