“Really lovely”
The room was wonderful, with nice big windows and a bath. The bar was really nice in the evening, and the rarebit for breakfast was amazing.

We had already visited Ship & Trades a few years ago. The location is great, close to London. A nice residential area has sprung up around the marina. The whole building has charm, architecturally it’s an interesting building with a certain flair. The rooms are better than standard. The restaurant food is excellent. The location and view are superb. The people are friendly. We feel at home here.

The hotel is in a great spot right on the dockside, just a five‑minute drive from Historic Dockyard—though walking was possible, the rain made it less appealing. A shopping precinct is nearby, and a pleasant walk around St Mary’s Island offers a beautiful view over the marina. The large room 12 was nice. However, the restaurant was always too busy, so we had to eat in the bar for both nights, but the food was still very good.

The breakfast included in the room rate offered a good selection. The hotel has nice views of boats and it’s a short stroll to Chatham dockyard, the river walk and the outlet centre which includes cafés and restaurants. The staff serving breakfast were particularly friendly and attentive. The bed was comfortable. The pub downstairs is warm and inviting. We ate in the pub for Sunday lunch but the food was very average. The hotel is dated and worn and needs maintenance. Google comments from nearly two years ago suggest the halls outside really need cleaning, repainting, and we would agree. The furnishings in the room were quite shabby and had cigarette burns on their surfaces. The seal at the bottom of the shower needs replacing, which meant the floor was soaked every time you showered. The shower was over the bath and it was quite slippery getting in and out. A sign asked you to use a shower curtain which did not exist! Someone needs to walk through this hotel and fix a few things. Note there is no milk supplied in the room for tea and coffee, so you need to go downstairs and ask for fresh milk—bit inconvenient at times. For what we paid I felt it was very overpriced.
