Crown Hotel Balangoda

“Great budget friendly accomodation and stunning scenery on the drive from Ella.”

I added Balangoda to my itinerary because the district is known for yellow sapphires and I wasn’t disappointed; it’s worth spending a day or two if you’re into gemstones and plan to head to Ratnapura next. The staff were always helpful, even driving me into and out of town and connecting me with local gem miners and traders. Balangoda is off the main tourist trail but worth the effort, especially since hiring taxis on the Pick‑Me App in Sri Lanka is relatively cheap. The scenery is stunning. Highly recommend. It was my cheapest accommodation in Sri Lanka, and I found nothing to dislike.

“Top Preis-Leistung mit bequemem Bett und Sonnenaufgangs-View”

The village location was quiet, though not central. The room had a comfortable bed, pillows, sofa, full‑length mirror, wardrobe, and a ceiling fan—though the AC remote was missing, which we didn’t need. The hot water in the bathroom was a special highlight: a thick, pleasantly warm stream, rarely seen in Sri Lanka :-) The kind family cooked for us that evening, serving tasty fish with fried rice at a low price. Overall, great value and I’d recommend it. The balcony offered sunrise views. I’d stay again. We arrived spontaneously because it started raining and we urgently needed a place for our scooter; the room wasn’t ready, so a quick clean was done—yet the floor and shower were still dirty. The toilet, sink, and bed were very clean. The missing AC remote and the unclean floor and shower each cost us a point.
