“Excellent accommodation + yoga experience in South Kerala”
Abhilash and his wife welcomed us warmly, offered plenty of tips about things to do and interesting facts about the area, and were very generous. When my sister got food poisoning on the last day, they let her rest in the room until we left. Abhilash runs a 90‑minute Ashtanga yoga class on the rooftop every morning before breakfast; I learned a lot and definitely improved my practice with him. I also rate the breakfast highly – each morning a different combo of fresh local fruit, fresh lime water with chia seeds/mint, and delicious homemade Kerala‑style breakfast, less spicy than other places (which my sister appreciated!). The whole place is clean, well‑kept, and decorated with great taste using wooden accents, textiles, and brass paraphernalia. Our room was compact but cozy and had all essentials, including a hair dryer. The garden and patio outside are great spots to sit and relax among leafy trees and the singing of birds. There’s also a shared kitchen area where you can brew tea, store items in the fridge, and cook on the gas stove. A great selection of books on yoga, meditation and other topics is available on the ground floor. I really enjoyed the 90‑minute full‑body massage on the last day; the warm oil had a lovely scent and the masseuse was excellent at kneading all the right spots! Finally, Tattwamasi is literally a 10‑minute walk from Varkala north cliff, where there are plenty of stalls, coffee shops and restaurants for tourists. Or hop on an autorickshaw (Abhilash can call one for you) and in 8 min you reach Varkala town for a slightly less touristy vibe. Bring a headlight if you go out at night so drivers can see you, as street lamps are few and spaced apart. The only minor points were that there was only one power socket in the room, so we had to plan ahead to keep our phone, laptop, camera, headlight… charged for the day, and the water flow in the bathroom wasn’t consistent; some days it was a mere trickle, making showers a bit challenging. I found that slowly filling in the bucket provided did the trick.
