Twenty years ago I stayed at this hotel for a month while I was on assignment, and it still retains the same charm; they even lent me a bike, which I used to explore Seto city. The manager at the time was lively and never seemed to need a break, and they even looked up my record in the guest ledger. After a long‑awaited, delicious breakfast I felt overwhelmed with emotion—it was as if time had stood still and nothing had changed. Back then there was no famous local named Masashi Fujii, but I plan to return next year. The hotel itself no longer exists; the miso‑stewed udon shop and the model‑making store that used to be nearby have closed. There’s a grocery store close by, but if you want a proper lunch or dinner you’ll need to head to Owari‑Seto or go to Sakae or Nagoya; the only izakaya in the vicinity is a single place.

The hotel is close to the station. The bathtub handle was broken.

The staff treated me with great courtesy, making my solo stay completely hassle‑free. If I had to point out one flaw, it would be the old air‑conditioner that made a noticeable noise, though using earphones or earplugs made it tolerable.

Breakfast was incredibly tasty this time (Japanese style), and the price and location were both very reasonable. The bathroom drainage wasn’t as bad as some reviews suggested—just average—and the bathroom light was a bit dim, but by overseas standards it wasn’t a big issue.
