The breakfast was lovely and only £7, absolutely incredible, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room felt a bit cramped, and while the bathroom was clean, it could use a bit more attention.

The room was clean, the staff were nice, the location was good and the price decent, but the bathroom lacked detail: the mirror light didn’t work and the sink plug was broken.

I just love the vibes here. It seems to be run by a local family, and the manager—who is the owner's son—along with all the staff are super friendly. Whenever I stay while catering at the castle, we always feel welcomed and they even remember our little faces. A bar lady even recognized me on the phone the other day. You won’t get that at a Hilton. No Hilton bashing, of course.

The staff were mostly very friendly and the food we had was really good. However, the hotel is not just “tired” as some reviews say; it’s more like severely exhausted. The room we stayed in didn’t justify the money we paid. Hospitality isn’t just about nice people; essentials like toilet brushes, decent water pressure in showers, clean windows, and a working TV larger than an iPad are also important. Breakfast was ruined when a cleaner loudly declared, “if I drink any more tea, I’m gonna piss myself.” It’s a nice little town, but if you value modern standards, stay elsewhere in Duns; it feels like stepping back into the 70s.
