“Déçus, première fois qu'on quitte précipitamment un hébergement!”
We arrived around 19 h and were greeted by a lone young man who gave us two rooms; the first was rather shabby with a concrete floor, stained sheets and pillows, and a bathroom full of mould, while the second was more modern but its bathroom door opened onto a neighboring building’s window without any curtain and the glass wasn’t tinted. Neither room had working Wi‑Fi. We went out to dinner and found the street atmosphere unsettling for our two 14‑year‑old daughters. When we got back, the same young man was about to sleep in a nearby room, setting up his bed, and the strong smell of cannabis on the terrace made it clear he had been smoking. Because the rooms didn’t match the photos or reviews and we felt unsafe, we left the next morning at 8 am even though we had booked three nights. The owner apologized by message the following day but refused to refund the two nights we cancelled. We ended up paying the same amount for a hotel with breakfast in Sandton, which was fine despite the financial loss. (Out of the 14 places we stayed at on our African roadtrip, none were perfect or luxurious, but the other 13 earned scores between 8 and 10, and we’re not being picky or unreasonable.)
