“Excellent Self Catering Hostel Unique building and excellent location”
The location is excellent, the facilities are superb, the building is unique, and the conversion of the old church is outstanding. It’s very clean, but it’s a top‑grade hostel, not a hotel. The value for money is excellent. The community‑owned pub in the village serves great food. The kitchen is next to the main lounge, so food smells tend to linger.
“Perfect resting point”
The start was incredibly helpful. The service was the best on the entire coast‑to‑coast route. The property is 3 miles off the c2c, and Victoria picked us up in Richmond and returned us to Richmond. Nothing negative – we loved our stay.
“11 out of 10”
The renovation is incredible. The beds are comfortable, the location is stunning, and the facilities are excellent.
“A very nice visit to a church as my accommodation”
The staff were fantastic and super friendly. The location is unique and we were greeted by sheep wandering around the accommodation. The other guests were interesting. The place is a little small but works well for one person.
“A peaceful and friendly sanctuary.”
We arrived to a tranquil setting and a warm welcome. The location is within easy walking distance of the village pub, yet it remains calm and peaceful. The interior is finished to a high standard, with original features combined with a sympathetic, modernised restoration. The room I stayed in was comfortable and clean, with plenty of hot water in the sizeable en‑suite. The mattress and pillows were firm, and the duvet was the right weight for me. The communal areas accommodate both social and private time, and the kitchen is extremely well furnished; Wi‑Fi was flawless throughout the building. Free tea and coffee is a nice touch. Overall, I will certainly stay at St Michaels Lodge again, provided it’s not booked out. As a final note, I normally sleep about 4 hours per night, but at St Michaels I had a full 9 hours of uninterrupted rest, which speaks volumes. There was nothing negative.
