The staff were friendly, rooms were clean, breakfast was superb, and there were no complaints about anything.

The location was great and the traditional pub was steeped in history; we could have spent days admiring the wall art and artefacts. The bathroom had a restricted height and the bed sheets did not fit.

The food was excellent, far beyond our expectations, and our waitress in the dining room was pleasant, helpful, and efficient; we left a positive note in the visitors’ book on the first floor. The car park was cramped but just enough room, and parking was free. There was no lift for our suitcases, but a male staff member carried them upstairs for us. The hotel was only a short flat walk from the cathedral, the college, and the High Street.
