We felt we overpaid for a cramped room that had two beds squeezed together, and the wardrobe was awkward to access because the door opened the wrong way. There was no chair, which is normally standard, and the TV picture was terrible. A black mould patch appeared on the bathtub, and the hotel grounds—both inside and outside—were in disrepair with poorly cut or unmowed grass in some spots. The entire property clearly needs a full makeover and looks worn out. We had flown from Toronto to Ottawa and stayed overnight in Gananoque, Rigaud, and Renfrew; the Renfrew hotel was the most expensive and the worst of the three, so I would not recommend it.

“When there is nothing better close by”

Finding the hotel and parking was a breeze, and the room and bathroom were clean. Coffee, tea, and a coffee machine were provided in the room, and the staff were pleasant. However, the mattress was too firm, the pillows felt like bricks, and the duvet and linens slid around. The walls were thin, so we could hear guests arriving at 4 am. I disliked the automatic check‑in and check‑out system and chose not to use it.

The décor was outdated, the rugs were dirty, and flies swarmed everywhere—at least a dozen died. The ceiling was also filthy.

Comfortable friendly staff close to amenities, priced well, enjoyed my stay very much, and nothing to complain about.
