The vibe of the place was charming and it sat right in the middle of town with a simple layout; we felt like we belonged to the local scene. The food was delicious, and the rooms were basic but the shared amenities were a pleasant surprise. The only hiccup was that after breakfast we wished there was a sink to rinse our cups.

“Value for money.”

I booked a budget room for one night in Tumut and wasn’t sure about the shared bathrooms at the Oriental, but they turned out fine. The hotel has that old‑school feel with rooms above the pub, which plays a lively playlist. My room was small but adequate for a solo stay, and even in mid‑winter it stayed warm and cozy. I dined at the downstairs bar and the food was solid. I’d stay again. The downside was a fire alarm that started beeping somewhere on the property; they silenced it early in the evening when I arrived, but it started again in the morning and kept me awake. Like many hotel mattresses, it could have been flipped because one side was noticeably slanted.

“Rustikales Hotelzimmer wie vor 100 Jahren, leider ohne eigenes Bad”

The room was reasonably priced and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We overlooked that the room didn’t have a private toilet or shower; however, the two bathrooms in the hallway were modern and well equipped. We would not choose this room again.
