“One of my best global experiences, ever.”

From the moment I landed in Malawi, the airport pick‑up went smoothly as planned. At the hotel I felt like family; manager Jessie and her wonderful team went above and beyond to make me feel at home. They handle everything, especially meals, with excellent service. Breakfast and other meals offer familiar UK dishes or exquisite local fare—some of the best I’ve ever had. Everything is made from scratch, so order it and be wowed by the taste. I fully recommend Kaduwa Imperial Hotel to anyone visiting Lilongwe who wants a genuine local feel in both the rooms and social areas. I had no concerns whatsoever.

I stayed at an authentically African hotel that really captured the essence of Malawi, with decor, hospitality, and food that reminded me of my grandmother in Mulanje; the staff were welcoming and attentive, and I’ll definitely return on my next visit to Lilongwe – highly recommend for anyone seeking a stylish, peaceful, distinctly African‑Malawian boutique experience.

The place was spotless and the A/C worked great, and the towel was fluffy; however, the photos in the listing are far better than reality, and this converted office building lacks any ‘sunny lodge’ feel, presenting as a boxy, white, water‑stained room with 1980s doors, echoing hallways that let you hear downstairs staff, and I had to leave early for a flight but couldn’t exit through the front door, so I used a back exit after scouting the property; regarding the credit card rate issue, the official low rate can’t be avoided, but you can exchange USD/EUR at a nearby supermarket and pay in cash to cut the cost in half; as another reviewer noted (and the response claimed it was fixed), the mattresses are still wrapped in shipping plastic, the bedsheet is a skinny polyester mess, and the top sheet is a tablecloth – not exactly an eco vibe, and you wake up sweating on the impermeable layer or stuck to the plastic; the staff on the Booking site didn’t respond to multiple messages and were unaware when I arrived, so I had to show confirmation for them to get stay and rate info; I strongly suggest they be deplatformed, and the claimed amenities like airport shuttle, sun terrace, and room service are nonexistent.

“Incompetent management, poor experience”

The room was very clean and the decor nice, but they refused to honor the booking confirmation price (lower than their normal rate, which I thought was a promotion but they insisted it was a mistake), forcing me to pay more or threatening to kick me out and find another hotel after dark; dealing with the owner was a nightmare, he refused responsibility and wasted about an hour of my time; the place could be saved if it weren’t for no wifi (despite “high speed wifi” advertised), the need to ask multiple times for a rubbish bin, brick‑hard bed and pillows, a mattress still covered in plastic, no washcloth or shampoo or hand towel in the bathroom—just a bar of soap and one full‑size towel—and no hot water in the shower, all unacceptable; it seems they opened before ready, trying to pass off as a high‑level hotel and scam tourists, making them pay for the hotel’s mistakes; the receptionist knocked on my door at 5:30 am to discuss breakfast, which is a time most people are asleep, and after that chat they decided not to give me any breakfast at all – what a nightmare; the rooms are pretty but not worth the cost, the night was uncomfortable, and their administration is entirely incompetent – avoid this place, they’re scammers with no interest in welcoming guests and only want to bleed them dry.
