“Nice hostel with superb location”

The hostel stays clean and functional even though the space feels tight. Its location is fantastic, right in the heart of Sol, so you can wander the old and new town or hit tourist spots within a few minutes on foot. The owner and managers are very friendly, letting us stash our luggage for an extra four hours after checkout. The only downside was the street noise at night, which seeped into our room.

“Great location, clean rooms but noisy from the street)”

The location is great—just two steps from the shopping area, a 10‑15 minute walk to the main sights, and a taxi spot right outside the door. If you need to head to the airport in the morning, you just open the door and go. The room was spotless, exactly as described. However, it felt like an apartment with each room rented on a single corridor floor. Reception isn’t open 24 hours; when I checked in an elderly lady who spoke no English answered me. I asked about a taxi at 6 am—she couldn’t help. The biggest problem was street noise until 2:30 am: garbage collection, street washing, and all the hostel activity were very loud. If you’re a light sleeper, think twice.

“Estadía en Madrid”

Staying at Hostal Mayor is always a pleasure and my first choice whenever I visit Madrid. The place has a superb location, impeccable cleanliness, and the owner is very kind. They don’t offer breakfast, but there is a coffee and snack vending machine. I booked a room with a street view because interior rooms weren’t available, so the outside noise was noticeable at night and even woke me up despite using earplugs. In other stays where I got an interior room, I could sleep soundly with no noise at all.

“Staff go out of their way to help.”

I was only staying overnight before travelling on an early morning train to Granada. I missed the train to Madrid in the afternoon but the owner of Hostal Mayor was very accomodating with the change in checkin time and made every effort to meet me at the door and help me to the checkin desk. Then again, she was up to help me get off early to Atocha the next morning. Very clean bathroom and linens, comfortable bed.Great location. You have to accept you are in central Madrid, a city that never sleeps, so the fact that I was there during a festival I expected to hear celebrations and cleaning up in the street. Madrid is very expensive for the style of accomodation you pay for. I can't complain about Hostal Mayor - it's all expensive
