“Charming, great location, no shower, no room key, smokers outside the windows”
The room and the hotel were a fun, vintage‑style, charming experience; we loved the quirky décor and the comfort was good except for the strong cigarette smoke coming through the windows and the fact that there was no shower. The location was ideal, right on the main road, and parking was available, although other guests parked oddly and left little space, so we had to find a spot on the street; a room fan helped on a warm night. The experience was hard to rate because we arrived late and the key was left for us in the box, but another guest took it, so we couldn't get in. We had to call the owner, who was outside the city and used phones that weren't meant for calls in Europe; she drove in, found the guest who took our key, and let us into the hotel and our room after at least an hour of waiting, which was exhausting after a long day of travel. The owner seemed a bit cranky, but she could have offered a free breakfast or a late checkout instead of blaming us for arriving late, something she knew we would do. People were smoking and talking loudly in the courtyard after midnight, right below our room, so we had to close the windows on a very hot night. There was no air conditioning, only a room fan. The bathroom had only a tub with a shower head that couldn't be attached to a hook or any higher wall fixture, making it a very awkward and the worst bathing experience we had in Germany. Breakfast cost around $20 per person, which is normal in Germany but too expensive for a family.
