“Schärding ist schön und ein neues Hotel ist nicht unbedingt immer das bessere.”
The hotel seems to be made up of four old buildings, visible from the outside and because of the differing levels. At least one of those buildings is supposedly from 1574, though the conversion to a hotel probably happened only in recent years. It sits on a narrow, cobblestone street that unfortunately leads directly from one of the bridges to the main square. In the evening it’s extremely loud, even in a room facing the running house (yes, there’s one directly opposite), so you can’t leave the windows open: cars and motorcycles roar by (car‑poser?). Thick walls don’t keep the heat out in summer. The room rate is not in line with the service, especially compared to other similarly equipped hotels we visited on our trip—it was by far the most expensive night. Also, the breakfast buffet closing at 9:30 was a downside.
