“Despite the problems, I was made very welcome in his house and enjoyed my stay.”

The owner and his dog were incredibly sweet, but the mattress felt very thin and the pillow was just a piece of foam. The toilet and separate shower are downstairs, and the stairs are very steep, making it dangerous if you’re half‑asleep and need to go. There’s no private basin for brushing teeth or makeup.

The host was friendly and helpful, and the place was quiet. It’s close to shops, and the kitchen has hot water, a storage cupboard with tea and coffee dishes, and a fridge. The “loop” bus stops nearby. The room was tiny, lacking a shelf for a few items, which was unexpected given the photos. Two suitcases took up a lot of space. I found it a bit awkward sharing the kitchen with the host (though he was very kind), but it was practical given the room’s size. I didn’t understand how the large room (photo #3) differed from the small ones (photo #4 that we stayed in) because the label says “chambre lits jumeaux économique.” The stairs are steep.

The host is an incredibly nice person with an amazing sales manager (Gao). The location is absolutely perfect, in one of the most authentic tea districts you could ask for more, and it’s a short walk to the garden. It’s a truly authentic experience.

The host is adorable. I was very comfortably settled in the ground‑floor room, about twenty minutes’ walk from the city centre. It’s a bit far from the train station on foot, but it’s easy to get to.
