From the moment I stepped inside, I could feel the staff’s meticulous yet unobtrusive service—thoughtful without being intrusive, a balance that is hard to find. The butler gave a detailed tour of all the room’s amenities, speaking with pride that was well earned: the design and view of the entire room were breathtaking. Dinner was a showcase for the chef; the kaiseki was outstanding, each dish a surprise that left my mother and me incredibly happy. Breakfast continued the chef’s creativity, blending traditional Japanese style with care. During our Mid‑Autumn Festival visit, the fruit that morning was presented in a rabbit‑shaped dish, cut into rabbit shapes—so cute we couldn’t bring ourselves to touch the chopsticks. Housekeeping was excellent, and the hotel’s products all highlighted local Shizuoka and Izu items, giving us a taste of high‑quality porcelain and coffee beans; we bought many souvenirs before leaving. On the downside, the bedroom’s air‑conditioner was a bit loud; the staff had to adjust it for a long time before it was quiet. Also, there is a threshold step from the living room to the balcony that can trip you—fortunately we were not seriously injured.

The rooms are very spacious, comfortable, and well equipped. The onsen is pleasant and the ocean view is beautiful. However, you have to be lucky to get a well‑located room: some are slightly recessed in the building, cutting part of the view. Regarding the staff, a special shout‑out to Mark, who spoke excellent English and delivered hotel service worthy of the expected standard—professional, attentive, and efficient. We also appreciated the receptionist, who was very professional, helpful, and always available to assist. The value for money is hard to justify. The experience felt rather “old school,” with very codified service that gave the impression of a bygone era of hospitality. At comparable price and standing, we expected a more modern experience. The food was good but nothing exceptional considering the rates. Izu‑Atagawa and its surroundings are a very calm destination with relatively few restaurants, shops, or activities nearby, which adds to the peacefulness of the stay, but you should be aware of this, especially if you plan to stay several nights.

I really appreciated the cultural vibe and authenticity of the place.

The scenery, shuttle service, board games and cards you can borrow in the lobby, and the room’s facilities and supplies were all exactly what you need, and I have no complaints.
