“Very noisy, not good value for money and you pay a surcharge.”
The accommodation was tidy, with clean bedding and a clean bathroom, plus an oil heater and an electric blanket for cold nights; the mini fridge had a few milks, and shampoo and body wash were supplied. It was close to town. However, this was the worst and most expensive stay we had in NZ. We were hit with a 3 % surcharge on top of the room fee at check‑in, a fee we only learned about after booking. The biggest issue was the lack of sound insulation—every conversation, laugh, zipper, and even a cup of water from the main house was audible, and the opposite was true too. The locked door that connects to the main house amplified the noise, and people on the other side talked, laughed, and slammed cupboards until 1 am, with the light on shining bright through the door edge at night, which made it hard to sleep. Parking was only on the street; the driveway was off‑limits. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, leaving me with a sore back. Other problems included having to wash dishes in the bathroom because the kitchenette had no sink, some dishes and cups in the cupboard were dirty, there was no air conditioning for hot days (just a fan), and no smoke detector in the room. Overall, the place was not good value for money and seemed like the owner didn’t care about guest comfort.
