I booked the place through the app, turned up and nobody answered the door. There was no doorbell, the phone number was dead, and a neighbor told me the building had been sold and the hostel was no longer operating. All that hassle for nothing.

The listing was basically a ghost – the address didn’t line up, the room wasn’t the one I’d booked, and the place was being lived in by a squatter. The actual owners arrived the next day, sealed the house, and I had to scramble to find another hostel in Olinda at the last minute. I later met other travelers who faced the same shut‑door surprise.
