Beautiful setting and my family have been going to Devon Valkey for over 50 years. We had to ask for a fire to be light in the beautiful bar/lounge area in the middle of May and were told that a fire can only be light subject to a certain no. Of guests. It was then only light! We had to leave the lounge area at about 9.30 pm as the bar was closed and sit in the diningroom to finish our special evening. This is not good hospitality

Very peaceful and beautiful location and have been a guest there for over 5 decades with my family. We had to request for a fire to be light in the beautiful lounge / bar area in the early evening and were advised that the owner has a directive that a fire can only be light subject to a certain minimum no. Of guests. This is not acceptable when an overnight stay for 4 guests is still a significant amount of hard earned money. The fire was then light when I voiced my absolute displeasure. We had to vacate the beautiful warm bar after dinner, and before we were ready, and sit in the diningroom to finish our evening

This time the room was for my mother, but we’ve stayed at this hotel many times before. It’s always an excellent choice for the Stellenbosch area.

Breakfast was good with a buffet, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The property and rooms were a bit dated and antique. The bathroom and toilets, especially in the restroom, were not very clean.

The dinner that evening was really tasty, and the wines from the neighboring estates were superb. However, the staff seemed to know very little about wine for a wine region.
