We booked this hotel as a family of 4 because it fit our budget and was one of the few options available for our last‑minute ski holiday dates. We had read the reviews and didn’t expect much, but before the trip I emailed several times about various things and always received quick, accurate replies. On arrival and check‑in we were greeted by a very friendly, helpful man who spoke English and was accommodating. We then went to our room—a Japanese Tatami/futon room. It was clean, heated, and had no mould, unlike other guests’ rooms that did have mould. The room was big enough, had a clean bathroom and toilet, and the shower worked, though it wasn’t amazing. At dinner we were pleasantly surprised; it wasn’t amazing either, but it was better than the reviews and offered plenty of options—katsu curry, fried meats, vegetable dishes, basic salad options, etc. Considering the price we paid, we were happy. The onsen in the basement was amazing; the showers had good pressure and great temperatures, and the changing rooms were super warm. We showered there daily and enjoyed the free onsen use. So, while it isn’t a 5* hotel and never pretends to be one, it was pretty good value for what we paid—we were right next to the middle ski lift. There was definitely mould around the hotel and, as some reviews say, the wallpaper is peeling off in areas. However, this wasn’t the case for the whole place. It definitely needs a bit of a renovation or facelift, but then I imagine the price will double.
