The breakfast was very good, and the pool area was nice and quiet for the first two days, though it got busier later on. Still, finding a sunbed was no problem. The Japanese restaurant was excellent, and Lolo’s offered a very different vibe, making it a great contrast. However, with two pools and all the kids in both, it would have helped to have one adults‑only pool so swimming became impossible otherwise.

The hotel is easy to reach, close to everything, and has direct beach access. The rooms are clean, the staff are very attentive and try to solve everything, and they’re helpful. The price of water at $8 was very odd, the sun lounger was free but the umbrella cost $40. I’ve never experienced this at a Marriott in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, or elsewhere; it’s the first time I’ve stayed on South Beach, and going outside the hotel to find water was ridiculous. Those are basic necessities, and umbrellas should be included in hotel services. I paid a $42 resort fee that should have covered it. In Boston, the Marriott next to my house picks up guests from the airport with a shuttle, and all Boston hotels do the same. New York was similar. It was strange that no Miami hotel offered this service.

The hotel’s location is great, right across from the beach. I used the hotel’s own valet service for an overnight stay and was charged $62. When I checked out, I asked the receptionist if my wife and I could stay longer in the pool area and enjoy drinks from the poolside bar; she said we could stay there at no extra cost. I also asked about parking and whether there would be any additional fees, and was assured there would be none. After spending a few hours at the pool, we left to catch our return flight. To my unpleasant surprise, my credit card was charged $150 instead of the original $62. I am very upset about this charge and would like a refund, given that I had been informed there would be no additional costs.
