“Property owner's friend called me a "weasel" in abusive call after I reported electrical fault ?!”
I was excited to try a glamping lodge after 50 years of camping and caravanning, and the quiet area had plenty of nearby attractions. The lady who handled my booking seemed friendly and helpful, and it felt like she was just starting her business. The lodge itself was clean and warmed up quickly, but the rust on metal surfaces showed some damp problems. I was too nervous to leave a review after an abusive phone call and the property’s negative reply to another guest who reported similar issues, accusing them of leaving a mess—there are no site bins or even a bin liner. We left the lodge exactly as we found it, even though we had no cleaning tools like a dustpan or brush, and we took all our rubbish home in the car. The owner texted us 24 hours before arrival to say there were no towels or bedding for the sofa bed and that we should bring our own, but we were already gone. Sat Nav and Google couldn’t find the property—no business signage. The field gateway was flooded, the key safe was difficult to use in the dark, there was no site lighting and 3 inches of water, and the place was in total darkness until we turned on power at the fuse board. The main lights flickered when we tried to turn on the TV, which wouldn’t turn on. The portable aerial was broken and partially rusted into the back of the TV. I reported the electrical and TV faults to the owner. He sent a “friend” over with two towels, who immediately accused me of “breaking” the TV. He scraped rust off the connection and fitted another aerial. There was no oven, so we fried food instead; one pan burned and scratched the Teflon, which I thought was unsafe. When I approached the man, he told me to “brush up the pan” and go away, claiming he had already fixed the TV. He slept in a transit van on the field overnight, and we decided not to call the owner again while he was there. The smoke detector on a floor-level shelf was dead, the tap water smelled bad at first, there were no bin facilities or even a bin bag, and no onsite services at all. We took our rubbish home in the car. The bathroom extractor fan didn’t work; I reported it. The next day I received an unexpected, angry, abusive, intimidating phone call from the man who had fixed the TV aerial. He called me a “little weasel,” said I was trying to get my money back, accused me of breaking the TV aerial myself, and said I was writing a negative review, which I had not done until then; I had only contacted him. My partner asked him to stop being abusive, but he continued, so we ended the call and reported it. He called me a weasel again, swore at us, called me fat, said I couldn’t even clean a pan, and told me I should…
