“Rundown, grimy, depressing, and not even close to being worth the money.”
The staff were friendly, and the hotel sits near a convenient bus line, but the breakfast was disappointingly basic—only cereal and yogurt, no hot options—so I’m not sure why it’s highlighted as a perk. The spot isn’t great for exploring downtown Portland, and our room faced the street, making the constant traffic noise and nightly sirens from the hospital across the street unbearable. When we arrived, I had to call eight times before someone answered to check if our room was ready early. The room itself was in poor condition with peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, and stains everywhere; the pillows were flat and likely as old as the building, and housekeeping failed to remove dirty dishes. The shower was cramped, barely enough space to turn around. I chose this place hoping for a charming, historic inn vibe, but it turned out far grimmer and more rundown than expected, and the location added to the disappointment. It wasn’t worth the price we paid; a chain hotel by the water would have been a better deal, and this stay is the only regret from our Portland trip.
