The onsen is beautiful, tattoo‑friendly, and the staff speak English—perfect for foreigners! Unfortunately, because of the distance from KIX, we missed breakfast, which was a shame.

Nanten‑En Ryokan in Kawachinagano blends traditional luxury with nature, featuring a sprawling Japanese garden, natural hot‑spring baths, and seasonal outdoor pool. Air‑conditioned rooms offer tatami floors, futon beds, and optional private toilets. Guests enjoy yukata robes, shoji screens, and woven‑straw floors, while multi‑course seasonal meals serve breakfast and dinner. The ryokan lies a two‑minute walk from Amami Station, 40 minutes from Osaka’s Namba, and an hour to Mount Koya.

The ryokan sits in a charming little village with a train station, a few houses, and surrounded by nature. The rooms are beautiful and the staff very kind. They even gave us a gift to apologize for a small inconvenience! The dinner and breakfast were excellent.

We stayed with family and absolutely loved the setting, the staff, and the overall experience. The pool area and its surroundings could use a refresh; they feel a bit dated. Also, be aware that the rooms don’t have showers—only the public Onsen does.
