The continental breakfast was great, and the location is perfect. I’ve stayed here before and am happy to return for the third year in a row; it really captures a trip to the West Country. We stayed in the annex, which looks a bit worn and could use some TLC, so next time I’ll go back to the main hotel.

The room was huge and had that old‑style charm, and after a long drive we could finally swim. The Indian restaurant in the village was great, and the receptionist was fantastic—cheerful and helpful. The sink water didn’t flow well, the shower was poor quality and fell out of place. The Luxaflex in the bathroom didn’t match the window at all and didn’t work properly. The pool water was fine, but everything else felt like a budget hotel that looks nice but needs a facelift and better quality; if they did, the price would probably rise. These reviews helped us prepare, and it was fun to feel like we were in a miniature Downton Abbey, though they also had maintenance issues.
