“Great fun !”
The surroundings are pretty at one of the first small‑scale resorts built around Bukit Lawang. The hosts were very friendly, gave us a warm welcome, great company, good food, and a two‑day jungle trek that guided us on a solid hike, with useful info, laughter, and excellent food before sleeping in a surprisingly comfortable spot down the river. We were lucky to meet Orang Oetang, Gibbons, and more. Bukit Lawang has grown into a small village built by the owners themselves and is now a tourist zone. In low season (April) it’s calm and sleepy, which I liked, but if you want a livelier scene, book in high season. On weekends (and when it’s dry) people from nearby villages come over and turn it into a party.
