Being a guest of the monks in a temple was a one‑of‑a‑kind experience; the rooms were small but comfortable, and dining took place in your own dining room. The vegetarian food was delicious, and the onsen was heavenly. It does take some getting used to that a lot is arranged for you and that you’re expected to follow the rules, but that’s part of the choice you make.

The place itself was good, but the monks, the rush, and the lack of warmth were disappointing, and it was very expensive.

The temple was a short distance from the main street, quiet and surrounded by nature, making it the best spot for meditation. Nothing else to add.
