“I would not stay anywhere else in Colima.”
This hotel turned out to be an excellent pick; it’s a handsome, historic building with balconies overlooking a main square in Colima. Its colonial architecture reflects the dignity, spaciousness, and solidity of a bygone era, far superior to modern hotels. Our room was small but appealing, with high ceilings, a window, and a balcony overlooking the plaza. The foyer featured leather chairs and windows that also faced the plaza. Receptionists were friendly and professional, and the cleaning staff were charming. The hotel boasts a lovely little swimming pool beside a leafy courtyard on one side of its imposing structure. Some rooms only have interior windows opening onto a marble hallway; those rooms are best avoided. Breakfast is served in a restaurant next door, with tables under the arcade overlooking the plaza. The food and service were very good, but we wish we’d visited the nearby municipal market, the ‘mercado,’ where stalls sell fruits and vegetables and you can always find a fruit‑juice stand and a breakfast counter offering truly authentic options.
